Van Houten cocoa
Van Houten is a well-known brand of cocoa and chocolate products, founded by the Dutch chemist Casparus van Houten in the 19th century. The company is known for its innovative approach to cocoa processing and is often considered a pioneer in the cocoa industry.
An important contribution by Van Houten to the cocoa industry was the invention of the cocoa pressing process in 1828, which allowed cocoa to be pressed into cocoa butter and cocoa powder, making it possible to make cocoa soluble in water. This process, known as "Dutching", resulted in the production of cocoa powder with a smoother taste and finer texture, leading to the development of modern cocoa products such as cocoa drinks and chocolate.
Van Houten cocoa is valued for its high quality and rich taste, and is used in, among other things, making hot chocolate, baking and cooking, and decorating desserts. The brand has a long history and remains an important player in the world of cocoa and chocolate.
